The Augas Santas Golf Thermal Spa Hotel was opened in 2006. It is built in the vicinity of the old thermal spa, founded in the mid-19thcentury. For a long time, the healing virtues of its sulphurous waters attracted visitors from different parts of Spain, Portugal or France. The decline suffered by these old establishments in the 20thcentury also affected Pantón, which closed down in the mid-1950s. The abandoned buildings were also destroyed by fire at the end of the 1970s. However, the old thermal spa pool continued to be visited by local residents, who always appreciated the water that flows there. The ruins of the old thermal spa are preserved next to the modern facilities as a testimony of a tradition that has now been recovered and improved using 21st century resources.
Enjoy the surroundings
The municipality of Pantón, in the heart of the Ribeira Sacra, is located to the south of the province of Lugo, bordering on the municipalities of Monforte de Lemos, Chantada, Carballedo, Nogueira de Ramuín, Sober and O Saviñao. Its capital is O Castro de Ferreira, which owes its name to an old hill fort settlement. The rivers Cabe, Miño and Sil constitute the geographical limits of this municipality, and are ideal for water sports and excursions to admire the beautiful scenery of the Ribeira Sacra area.
The traditional gastronomy of Pantón focuses on the traditional dishes of the Lemos valley, such as stew, Galician pies or octopus. Local confectionery includes crepes made with blood, and other pastries made with bread, milk and almonds (orejas, flores, torrijas, leche frita and almendrados).
The Reservoir Route is one of the main tourist attractions in the province of Lugo. A few kilometres from Ferreira de Pantón you can admire the beautiful landscape of the Ribeira Sacra, enjoying a cruise along its rivers in a catamaran, where the old Miño reveals treasures dating from ancient times.
Another attractive activity is to visit Manzaneda, a mountain resort located about 70 km away, with various activities that allow it to remain open all year round.
