History
This area was home to the Aguas de Reza, a spring historically used by farmers and local residents. Following the construction of the reservoir of Frieira, the spring was flooded. At the beginning of the 1990s, the San Rosendo Foundation of Diocesan Caritas built a modern hotel-thermal-geriatric complex, which was opened in 1995. It is a modern building made of granite blocks, with the main façade overlooking the river.
Enjoy the surroundings
Arnoia is located in the heart of the Ribeiro region, next to the rivers Miño and Arnoia, very close to the historical town of Ribadavia, 36 km from Ourense and bordering the province of Pontevedra. In addition to the valley - where vineyards and vegetables are cultivated, particularly its famous peppers - there is a high rocky and forest terrain.
It is a privilege to be able to enjoy the banks of the Miño, of great scenic beauty, on a catamaran trip, taking in the canyon of the river Arnoia, leading to areas such as A Peneda. Continuing downstream, there are several recreational areas in which to relax, with old mills that have been restored. The rivers also have ideal areas for rafting and canoeing.
Lovers of fishing (trout, eels and other species) and hunting (wild boar, rabbit and partridge) will find ideal places to enjoy these hobbies. In addition, there are several perfectly signposted hiking routes, with some sections for walking and others for cycling, such as the Route of the Rivers and the Route of the Mountains. Other routes can be travelled on horseback, or following the Route of the Thermal Spas.
A trip through this area will allow visitors to travel back in time. From the time of the hill forts, with settlements such as "A Cibdade" and "O Castro", contemplating the remains left by the presence of the Romans, to the stately homes that once belonged to the Inquisition. From here, it is possible to follow a splendid route through the Ribeiro monasteries.
The Ribeiro region is an area that has been dedicated to wine since the time when the Romans brought the culture of vine growing with them more than two thousand years ago. The Wine Route allows you to visit wineries, wine shops and wine museums, as well as to enjoy a variety of cultural and sports activities. There are more than twenty wineries that offer the possibility of visiting their facilities, in order to get closer to the winemaking processes, discover the wines, and taste them in the perfect setting.
